Health Risks of Contaminated Water

Swimming or surfing in sewage-contaminated water poses serious health risks to residents and visitors. The Tijuana River carries untreated sewage containing harmful bacteria, viruses, and toxic chemicals directly into our coastal waters.

Common Health Effects:

  • • Gastrointestinal illness (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea)
  • • Skin rashes and infections
  • • Ear, nose, and throat infections
  • • Respiratory problems
  • • Eye infections and irritation
  • • Hepatitis A exposure risk

Children, elderly residents, and individuals with compromised immune systems face the highest risk. Local surfers and beachgoers report frequent illnesses after water contact, yet many continue to use the beaches due to lack of alternatives.

The solution exists. What's missing is political will.

C4CC's comprehensive plan would permanently solve this crisis through infrastructure upgrades and binational cooperation. Join us in demanding action from elected officials.
